Social Media

New York Civil Liberties Union

I transformed the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU)’s social media into an accessible, visually captivating platform that primed new followers to stay engaged in issues that would need attention long after Trump left office.

Centering Impacted New Yorkers

At NYCLU, I filmed and edited bold, human-centered pieces, including videos that were picked up by NowThis!, retweeted by The Democratic National Committee, and cumulatively viewed over a million times on social media.

I also incorporated compelling, often real-time, photography on social media; several of these photos went on to be featured in annual reports and outlets such as Assembly, Elite Daily, and The Root.

A Social Community

I developed a new strategy for NYCLU’s Instagram that emphasized sincerity, on-the-ground visuals, and content that provided genuine educational value.

Within 12 months, I organically grew NYCLU’s Instagram followers by 52% and created a platform in which NYCLU’s audience regularly engaged in dialogue, asked questions, and shared personal experiences.

 New York University

As an original member of NYU's social media team, I infused the university’s social media with striking visuals, user-generated campaigns, and innovative content for a diverse and rapidly growing audience of prospective students and alumni.

Early Adopter

In 2016, I encouraged NYU to become an early adopter of Snapchat, and then grew its following to over 11,000 in the first six months.

Additionally, I created a number of social media series that still run today, including the annual #MyFirstWeek photo contest, first-day-of-school fashion video, a professor Q&A video series, among others.

“NYU liked my post 😮”

Through a combination of stunning photography and responsive community management, I grew NYU's Instagram account from 7,000 to 100,000 in less than 1.5 years. During this time, NYU's Instagram was also ranked one of the top ten higher ed Instagram accounts by engagement and growth.

UltraViolet

From livetweeting the Democratic presidential debates to designing shareable self-care graphics, I used my nimble digital skills to produce timely, justice-focused content for UltraViolet's audience of over 250,000.

A Balancing Act

As social media manager, I balanced sensitive topics and rapid-paced developments to produce timely and values-forward content about anti-Black police violence, the Harvey Weinstein trial, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW.)

Finding Joy

With bad news dominating the news cycle, it was even more important to create a space for joy and learning on UltraViolet's social media platforms.

Among the resources I created were a Black History Month curriculum, a Valentine's Day consent playlist, and feminist GIFs that have been viewed over 4 million times on Giphy and Instagram Stories.
